Car manufacturers spend vast amounts of money on building racing machines and putting them on the race track with the intention that they will develop some new cutting edge technologies to put on their road cars. And Ferrari is one of them. Being one of the biggest players in the pinnacle of motorsports, Formula 1, Ferrari is not afraid to shed money into innovation. Over the years we have seen quite a few technologies migrating from the Formula 1 track to Ferrari’s stable of exotic road cars.
The trend nowadays is green power, something we strongly support here at HephaestusLounge.com and Ferrari does not seem to be staying behind. Ferrari unveiled at the Geneva Autoshow the 599xx a spin off from the 599 GTB Fiorana. Like its cousin the FXX, the 599xx is rumored to be produced in limited number and only for the few loyal Ferrari clients. The 599xx does not only inherit technologies from the F1 race track but also the Rosso color of the F2008.
The most striking rumor though about this street racing machine is that Ferrari is planning to incorporate the latest technological advancements, the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), that they will start using this season in Formula 1. This is not confirmed yet, but definitely this is the right direction.
KERS is a regenerative braking system intended to increase fuel efficiency. It collects the kinetic energy of the slowing down car, rather than dissipating it by heat through the brakes, and then releases it back to the system when it is required. The system can be either mechanical (flywheel) or electrical.
So now we will only have to wait until we see the first Hybrid Ferrari…
