In the last month I had to travel to Dearborn twice in the Metro Detroit area. On my first trip I stayed at Hyatt Regency, on the second one last week, Hyatt was fully booked so I ended up staying at Dearborn Inn. So if you are traveling to the are you might find this useful depending what you are looking for.

Hyatt is a modern building which will impress you with the engineering that went into putting that structure together. Especially if you get the chance to climb at the revolving room on top. It has all the amenities that you will look for at a business trip.

Dearborn Inn is in an older building however, as soon as you enter you feel the warmth and cosiness. It feels very homy. Of course for the same price you get a much smaller room. And with a more pleasant shower experience despite the size.

Dearborn Inn wins in television set, as it features a big flat screen TV, compared to the CRT in Hyatt. It also has all the wall jacks to connect your computer to the TV.

Hyatt wins on internet. On top of their wired interned you have the T-mobile hotspot ($9.95) which you can use anywhere in the hotel. At Dearborn Inn the only choice you have is the wired internet ($12.95). And at peak hours betwwen 5-9pm it gets very slow. Wireless is available in the lobby at an additional charge.

Dearborn Inn wins in terms of location. West Dearborn is just around the corner. The Greenfiled village is just across the street and so is the Ford museum. And in the event you get bored on a sunny day you can sit in the parking lot and look straight into the Ford proofing grounds. You never know what you might see there… Tomorrow’s Fords! At Hyatt you have M-39 on one side and just another mall.

In terms of noise insulation Hyatt wins by far. Dearborn Inn is not very well insulated it seems, so it can get very noisy from people walking in the corridors. Also light can get in from the corridor throught the door sides.

Bottom line… both were pleasant experiences. When I will do it again I will go for Hyatt as internet and quiteness are more important to me. After all they are both so close to each other…
