It has been a long winter… a boring one without the anticipation of a race weekend… It is finally here and full of surprises!
It is obvious that this weekend has marked the beginning of a new era in Formula 1 racing. We will not be hasty that the contenders of the likes of Ferrari and McLaren are out of the game yet, as we have witnessed them in previous years to have an awful start of the season and then come back and challenge, defeat and lead everyone else.
However it was obvious today that the rules of the game have changed. The new kids on the block are the ones to fear. All these changes in the regulations for the 2009 season have pulled the reins from the favorite contenders and distributed them throughout the field. It was about time.
The HephaestusLounge.com team would like to congratulate Jenson Button and Brawn GP for their maiden victory on their first Grand Prix. Button it is good to have you back on the podium! And poor Honda… I bet they are back in Minato, Tokyo pulling their hair. Less than a month after they pulled out, their former team finishes one-two. Ross Brawn has not left the squad, he just took ownership of it so they could have been celebrating the double podium. Of course Brawn GP’s power unit now is a Mercedes one. But still talking about negative publicity…
And Vettel and Kubica… maybe the should slow down and think! They could have shared 14 points, now they have nothing to share but the Alber Park walls. It was obvious that Kubica could overtake Vettel in the 3 laps remaining. No, they had to show dominance. Well the track walls dominated both of them.
Toyota was brilliant as well, an amazing performance from Trulli. So did Hamilton, steadily weaving his way through to walk away with 5 points at first and then 6 as Trulli was penalized to 12th place. As we have witnessed last year every single point is precious. Right Massa? And keep that in mind Kubica and Vettel! Ferrari… well they’d better start racing!
